The regulatory framework of light drones

training provided by
Training description

This exceptional training is intended for aviation novices who wish to have maximum pleasure flying their small drone (model aircraft or UAV), with a minimum of regulatory or technical problems. You'll have at your fingertips:

  • a concise portrait of the Canadian regulations and the aeronautics law.
  • The role of the Minister of Transport in light drones.
  • Practical search tools.
  • Useful reference lists.
  • Find what you are looking for on the site.
  • Canada's Transport Airspace, easy to find, easy to understand.
  • the picture of the drone insurance situation.
  • FPV flight rules.
  • information on MAAC.

This short training does not cover all subjects of the Transport Canada exam. To cover all topics, you must complete the professional online course package.

The term "drone" is very common. However, Transport Canada uses "Model Aircraft" to describe an unmanned aircraft weighing 35 kg or less, for recreation only. For pleasure. "Unmanned aerial vehicle", or UAV in English, is the term that Transport Canada wishes to reserve for similar machines, but limited to 25 kg, and used for all kinds of reasons except leisure. This online training will introduce the Canadian regulatory framework that applies to all types. The use-based distinction currently in effect in Canada may be lost with the introduction of future regulations.

The training is fully facilitated by the instructor and covers aviation regulations, airspace and flight planning using practical examples. Learn quickly to find yourself on the Transport Canada website. Prepare all the planning stages for a drone flight, including integrating the wind forecast into a risk matrix. You will know the official rules of immersion flight (FPV) and the current situation of liability insurance for drone pilots, both recreational models and UAVs for work. The 2 hours and 30 minutes pass quickly and very pleasantly. It's the largest source of information available in Canada for recreational pilots of small drones, all in the comfort of your living room! Since this training is a familiarization with Canadian regulations, it does not meet the TP15263 requirements for professional pilots, although it is a very good introduction. This training is however the training of choice for visual observers in commercial operations.

Training available in French and English. The total time is estimated at 2 hours 30 minutes. You study at your own pace, in the comfort of your living room. Your access lasts 60 days.

Studying CQFA eLearning at home does not mean you're far from the teacher. He waits for your questions and answers you directly, by phone, by email, or during iMeet free seminars.

Threat and Error Management (TEM) in RPAS Operations

training provided by
Training description

Threat and Error Management introduces the concept of “Threats”, those things that are the precursors to errors that may decrease safety margins in aviation. The TEM system uses established behavioural markers that will assist in creating “Strategies” that will prevent threats from leading to errors and negative consequences. The course provides an applied, practical approach to explaining TEM principles. Threat and error management is an invaluable tool in professional RPAS operations creation and compliments any effort to identify hazards in any operation. Other Human Factors models are also studied in this course and used in real-life RPAS accident analysis. Candidates are guided in three analysis processes of the same scenarios and discover valuable lessons. This online TEM training uses tutorials, a quiz and an exam to complement the Light RPAS Professional Pilot Course offered by the CQFA, at no additional cost. The accidents presented in the course happened for real. It takes 2 hours to complete and presents theorigins of TEM and offers the knowledge to implement TEM in your daily RPAS operations.

Total time estimated: 2 hours. Study at your pace, your access lasts 60 days. Course available in English or French.
